Medford center staff visited some long-missed clients, dropping off bags of goodies to their homes. But this wasn’t just regular dressed staff. This was Cyndi the clown and Fatima the large blow-up person (sumo wrestler?). These two characters also made an appearance at Anne Sbraccia’s 100th birrthday bash. Transported by Medford center driver Joe and accompanied by Dean Martin (well, the cutout), Cydni and Fatima visited 6 clients, bringing a smile to Shamus and Barbara. For some, it is difficult to remain housebound and unable to attend “the club”.The visits will continue to additional clients while we remain closed. Not sure about the clown and the sumo wrestler.

Participants are unable to come to The Community Family right now, so we took TCF to their homes. To a small degree, anyhow. Everett center Activity Director Merrill put goody bags together that were then dropped off by van driver Mike. Colored pencils and a summertime booklet to color were featured items in the bags, as it is a favorite activity of so many participants. What a great way of staying in touch with participants, keeping them occupied while at home and letting them know we’re thinking of them!

Medford center participant Anne Sbraccia turned 100 years old and she chose to celebrate this milestone birthday at her second home, The Community Family. While the center is closed, the front of the center and parking lot made for a great parade route this morning! Family members, friends and Medford center staff all participated in this fun, joyful occasion that included a clown and her inflatable friend. Happy birthday and congratulations, Anne!

The Community Family’s doors have now been closed for more than two months and we remain unsure when we may be able to re-open. The health and safety of our participants is paramount but we are getting a little restless as we watch our hair grow out. To better stay in touch with our friends and followers, we will be sending periodic updates on how participants are spending their “down time” away from The Community Family, along with any other stories of interest. Look for an uplifting one early next week from our Medford center.

We will be doing this primarily on our Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/TheCommunityFamily/ – but we may also feature some on this website. In the meantime, feel free to contact us with your own!

The Annual Medford Jingle Bell Festival was a rousing success once again! Festivities included a Holiday Tree Display and Raffle at Medford City Hall and Holiday House Tours followed by receptions.

The Community Family’s Medford center has been the beneficiary of proceeds from this event since it started 21 years ago. We have received over $300,000 over the years, using the funds to keep the center a state-of-the-art facility. We thank TCF Board member Judy Lonergan and the many volunteers who have helpd make this fun event become an annual tradition in Medford!

Tony Piccolo, a member of the Medford-Malden Elks Lodge #915 and President of the Massachusetts Elks Association, made a donation to The Community Family’s Medford center for the third consecutive year. All members of the MA Elks Association leadership get to make donations from the association to a non-profit of their choice and Tony has designated his three donations to The Community Family. We are very grateful for his thoughtfulness and the generosity of Elks Assocation! Here is Tony posing with Medford center RN Lynette.
