Medford center participant Anne Sbraccia turned 100 years old and she chose to celebrate this milestone birthday at her second home, The Community Family. While the center is closed, the front of the center and parking lot made for a great parade route this morning! Family members, friends and Medford center staff all participated in this fun, joyful occasion that included a clown and her inflatable friend. Happy birthday and congratulations, Anne!

A photographer from the Medford Transcript was at the birthday gathering and provided some photos that are far superior to TCF’s in-residence camera man. Here is the link: https://medford.wickedlocal.com/…/PHOTOGALLE…/518009993/PH/1

The Transcript also did a nice write-up last week on Anne turning 100. Check it out here: https://medford.wickedlocal.com/…/medfords-community-family…

The Annual Medford Jingle Bell Festival was a rousing success once again! Festivities included a Holiday Tree Display and Raffle at Medford City Hall and Holiday House Tours followed by receptions.

The Community Family’s Medford center has been the beneficiary of proceeds from this event since it started 21 years ago. We have received over $300,000 over the years, using the funds to keep the center a state-of-the-art facility. We thank TCF Board member Judy Lonergan and the many volunteers who have helpd make this fun event become an annual tradition in Medford!

The Community Family has produced a marketing piece that promotes our relationship with the Veterans. Our Everett, Medford and Lowell centers all have contracts with the Veterans Administration for Vets to receive free services. Because of this, those three centers consistently have a number of veterans that attend. Beyond this, each center does extracurriculur activities or projects in support of the Vets. Take a look at the oversized postcard (front and back) we made that recognizes our ties to the Vets. And be sure to refer any Vets that you know that may benefit from our services.

The Community Family hosted a Thank You Reception on May 24th for the volunteers of the Medford Jingle Bell Festival. The 19th Annual Festival was held at Medford City Hall last December and was once again a huge success. The week-long event included tours of seasonally decorated Medford homes and a raffle of Christmas trees and other holiday items that are donated by local businesses, service organizations and families.

The Jingle Bell Festival has been run strictly by volunteers throughout its history, led by TCF Board member and Medford resident Judy Lonergan. She and a handful of other individuals have been involved with the Festival since it was started in 1999. In total, approximately 30 volunteers currently help make it a much-anticipated annual tradition in Medford.

At yesterday’s reception, a check was presented for $20,000 to The Community Family (TCF). TCF has been the primary beneficiary of Jingle Bell Festival proceeds since its inception, having received in total more than $280,000. The funds have been vital in keeping TCF’s memory loss care center updated and state-of the-art. This year’s proceeds have already been earmarked for a complete set of new chairs as well as renovations to the small nursing office. The reception also included a dinner, shared conversations and some initial discussion about making plans for Festival #20 this December. Stay tuned for more information on the big anniversary year!

The Community Family’s Medford Center is once again the grateful recipient of proceeds from the Jingle Bell Festival, held the first week of December. The 19th Annual Jingle Bell Festival brought together family and friends from Medford and beyond to participate in a house tour of five beautifully decorated homes in Medford, and to purchase raffle tickets for Christmas trees and other holiday decor/gifts. The trees were donated and decorated by local businesses and individuals and on display at Medford City Hall from November 29 to December 3.

The Community Family’s Medford Center has been the beneficiary of the festival since its inception, with proceeds totaling nearly $300,000. The Jingle Bell Festival Committee, a group of 30 or so Medford residents and friends and led by TCF Board member Judy Lonergan, volunteers their time and energy planning the event each year. Some of the committee is pictured here. Thank you for your dedication to this event, now an annual Medford tradition, and to The Community Family!

The Community Family has entered into a partnership with D’Youville Life & Wellness Community of Lowell by consolidating their adult day health center programs. The consolidation will consist of D’Youville’s current adult day health clients being given the preferred option of transitioning to TCF’s Lowell center by March 31, 2017. In return, all of TCF’s clients will have access to D’Youville’s broader range of services through a preferred partner relationship between the two non-profit organizations.

D’Youville is a comprehensive healthcare organization that has been part of the fabric of the Lowell community for 57 years. Its services include nursing home care, rehabilitation, independent living, hospice care and Alzheimer’s special care. Their existing adult day health space will be renovated to expand its current services.

The leadership at D’Youville made the difficult decision to close their adult day health program after careful, deliberate consideration. Adult day health programs throughout the state are experiencing the fiscal challenges that we have regularly communicated in recent years – the lack of an increase in reimbursement rates by the state for our services and rising costs due to new licensing regulations – and smaller programs like D’Youville’s are being severely impacted. It is one of a number of adult day health centers that have closed in the past 18 months.

As part of the announcement of the consolidation, TCF Executive Director Anne Marchetta stated that, “The Community Family is pleased to collaborate with D’Youville. Both non-profit organizations share a mission of providing high quality care to those we serve. Working together, our organizations will assure the continued presence of non-profit adult day health services in Lowell. With more than 80 years of combined experience in adult day health services, we expect this to be a strong and healthy partnership moving forward.”

We welcome all the new clients that are transitioning to TCF’s Lowell center and look forward to strengthening our relationship with D’Youville in the months and years ahead.
